'Encroachers' kill 13 Myanmar soldiers

A group said to be forest encroachers killed 13 Myanmar soldiers at the border opposite Ranong on Friday, a security source said.
The source said the attackers exchanged gunfire with the soldiers patrolling along the border at Ban Inthanin Kwang in Kawthaung province in southern Myanmar, opposite Kra Buri district of Ranong.
Two soldiers were still missing, the source added.
The nationality of the encroachers has not been determined, according to the source. Earlier reports said the troops were attacked by a group of unidentified armed men.
Myanmar has sought cooperation from Thailand to prevent the attackers from fleeing across the border.
Army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha had directed a task force in the district to keep a close watch on the border.
