22 bodies recovered from Teknaf coast

Police recovered 22 bodies, said to be of Myanmar nationals, along Cox’s Bazar district’s Teknaf coast of the Bay of Bengal on Thursday.
Fourteen of the victims were children.
The bodies were found floating on the coast after the weakened-cyclonic storm Mahasen crossed the Bangladesh coastline.

The local administration predicted that the victims were Myanmar nationals as a boat carrying about 200 ethnic Rohingya Muslims had capsized off Myanmar’s western state of Rakhine on Monday with some 50 feared drowned at the start of a mass evacuation from low-lying regions of the neighbouring country ahead of the approaching storm.

Quoting the police and local journalists, Teknaf Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Shah Mujahidul Islam told bdnews24.com from the spot that the bodies were recovered from the coast stretching from Teknaf’s Rajarchhara to Dalirchhara areas.

They apparently died a few days ago. Myanmar currencies were also found in the pockets of some of the victims.”
